Local nonprofit organization Refresh Frisco received a generous donation recently of $17,500 in hygiene products from H-E-B to support local children in need.

"Refresh Frisco provides customized packs of hygiene products to students in need in the Frisco and Little Elm ISDs. With the assistance of community partners like H-E-B, Refresh is working to ensure that every child in our community has access to personal hygiene items," stated Refresh Frisco President and Founder Elizabeth Watkins. "Refresh Frisco does this by providing customized packs filled with full-size hygiene products to over 1,400 students in Frisco and Little Elm ISD each quarter."

Refresh Frisco received the donated products at its brand-new warehouse space at 124 Rose Lane, Suite 405, on Aug. 30.

Refresh’s hygiene packs are customized based upon the child’s age, gender preference and ethnicity. Each pack contains shampoo, conditioner, soap or body wash, lotion, toothpaste, a toothbrush, floss, a hairbrush and lip balm. Packs for middle and high school students also include deodorant, shaving cream and feminine hygiene products for female students. Seasonally, items such as sunscreen and hand sanitizer are also included. Each pack includes a Refresh Card, which is a message of encouragement lovingly made by other students. Refresh packs are filled with full-size products and are intended to last for three months. Packs are distributed to students four times during the school year: August, November, February and May.

The cost of essential hygiene items continues to increase, putting an extra burden on families already stretched thin. Hygiene items are not covered under government assistance programs such as SNAP. The average cost of a Refresh Pack is over $35 per quarter. Refresh relies on the generosity of the community to fill packs with hygiene products.

“At Refresh Frisco, we believe every child deserves to feel clean and confident and have access to basic personal hygiene items. We are sincerely grateful to generous community partners like H-E-B that make this possible.” Watkins said.
